Jardin Bleu: Vive le Vintage!

The search for inspiration and themes for the new collection always leads the Hom-me creative team on unexpected creative adventures. The story behind the creation of the "Jardin Bleu" collection is particularly fascinating, involving the Valençay Château, a valuable architectural gem on the banks of the Loire, an international collaboration bridging Florence and Baku, and most importantly, the modern take on historical art traditions by artists from different generations. In this article, we want to share the history of one of our collections, "Jardin Bleu," which reflects our team's creative search process and the final result, presented in various interior and table settings.
In recent years, the revival of styles expressing the fashion and taste senses of previous generations has led to an increased interest in vintage style. Fashion industry analysts note that this is not a fleeting trend and that vintage style will remain relevant for many years. Naturally, this global "novelty" could not escape the attention of the Hom-me brand's creative team, and therefore, our team decided to create one of the main collections for 2024 in the vintage style experiencing a renaissance.

During the creative search, one of our team members encountered the famous Toile de Jouy fabric, created in the 18th century when the Chinoiserie style was fashionable in Europe. This fabric reminded them of the interior of the Duchess of Dino's bedroom at the Valençay Château, a UNESCO World Heritage site located on the banks of the Loire River. And voilà! The flight of fantasy began!

The medieval Valençay Château underwent innovative interior additions after being acquired by the famous Talleyrand-Perigord family in the 19th century. The adjacent bathroom to the Duchess of Dino's bedroom was also renovated by French masters at that time, with the walls adorned with Toile de Jouy fabric that caught our attention. By closely examining this wall covering, the Hom-me creative team expanded their

search and selected several excellent Toile de Jouy fabrics used in various parts of Central and Western Europe during the 18th and 19th centuries as the main inspiration sources for the new collection.

To prepare the initial design, the creative team turned to Italian artist Marcello Bonini and Azerbaijani artist Fazil Yagubov, who regularly collaborate with Hom-me, presenting the concept and sharing expectations regarding color tones and the overall atmosphere of the collection. According to the initial plan, the design best conveying the imagined ambiance was to be selected, but at the end of the designated period, the artists' works put the team in a complex decision-making situation!

Both artists, from different periods and creative schools, produced completely opposite designs inspired by the same source, offering a new perspective on the classic design of their era. However, surprisingly, these two designs, opposite in compositional structure, also complemented each other, creating an artistic duet between the two artists. Therefore, the Hom-me creative team decided to send both artists' designs into production.

The design created by artist Fazil Yagubov, while deconstructive in nature and deviating from traditional proportions, accurately conveyed the ambiance of the identified inspiration source, with attention to detail and form. The artist abandoned the pastoral human figures characteristic of Toile de Jouy fabrics, instead bringing the landscape elements used as complementary backgrounds in textiles to the forefront, creating an unregulated composition with unevenly arranged botanical patterns around the shapes of the items to be produced.

Overall, this approach, characteristic of modern tableware design, combined with Toile de Jouy elements, resulted in an original, light, and "soft" appearance. To maintain the "comfort" ambiance of the design, the Hom-me creative team decided

decided not to use shiny elements during production and selected a delicate ceramic material. Long color tests were conducted before mass production in Turkey to accurately reflect the unique color tone chosen by the artist.

The extensive "Jardin Bleu" (Blue Bird version) dinner set produced based on Fazil Yagubov's design is an excellent choice for breakfast, daily lunch, and dinner tables. One of the main features of the set is that it can be easily used in dishwashers and microwave ovens.

The design created by artist Marcello Bonini incorporates elements characteristic of classic dinner and tea sets produced by historical European porcelain manufacturers. The pastoral human figure, often the main compositional center of Toile de Jouy fabrics, is the centerpiece of M. Bonini's design.

In the design, painted with ink, gouache, and watercolor, a woman holding a glass in one hand and a bunch of grapes in the other, with a headscarf decorated with flowers, takes center stage. Behind her, a typical Tuscan landscape (M. Bonini lives and works in Florence) is depicted: a village house built on a high hill surrounded by vineyards, with tall cypress trees in the background.

Remaining faithful to classical tradition, M. Bonini completed the central decorative composition with two decorative bands. The first band is adorned with golden oak leaves, and the second band with grape clusters. The overall design is finished with a bright golden border.

For the production of this design with its solid neoclassical style, the most suitable material could only be high-quality fine bone china, and therefore, the Hom-me creative team entrusted the production of this design to one of the world's leading porcelain factories that produces porcelain items for the British royal family. The "Jardin Bleu" (Blue Lady version) tea and dinner set was produced in China from premium quality bone china with a high bone content.

Although bone china is inherently a durable and long-lasting material, special usage instructions (cannot be used in a microwave oven and must be hand-washed) should be followed to ensure the longevity of this set due to the golden decorations. However, when used correctly, this delicate porcelain set can become a family heirloom passed down through generations.

The textile and decor items of the "Jardin Bleu" collection are also the result of the Hom-me creative team's creative search. Thinking about the table and home textiles to complement both dinner and tea sets, the team decided to add gobelin pillowcases, tablecloths, table rugs, and plate mats, traditional for 17th-18th century European noble estates, inspired by the embodiment of Eastern art in European culture. To achieve this, they collaborated with one of the oldest European textile manufacturers that continue to produce gobelin according to ancient traditions, and high-quality pastoral gobelin textiles were produced in Belgium.

The "Jardin Bleu" bedding set was produced from 300-thread cotton satin material at one of Turkey's famous textile factories. The set's design, created by Hom-me designers in a vintage style with floral patterns in color shades matching the overall ambiance of the collection.

When planning the home decor items for the "Jardin Bleu" collection, various palace, residence, and estate interiors and decorative elements created during the era when Chinoiserie style was popular in Europe were reviewed. Naturally, one of the main "discoveries" of European design art during that period was the famous Delft faience (Dutch "Delfts blauw"). Although Delft faience, created in imitation of monochrome porcelain pieces produced in China during the Ming Dynasty, fell short of its Asian predecessors in terms of porcelain quality, it achieved a different level in terms of artistic decoration and artistic value.

Nevertheless, monochrome home decor has traditionally continued to be associated with Chinese culture worldwide, while also finding its place in new artistic interior styles of each era.

The "Jardin Bleu" home decor items by the Hom-me brand were produced in one of China's century-old ceramic manufacturers, using traditional forms and botanical patterns widely used in Europe. The collection includes vases, fruit bowls, and lidded decorative vases, each entirely handcrafted and decorated with hand-painted patterns by artists.

These decorative items, each a work of art, are created to bring a touch of art to your home, adding uniqueness to any interior.
